Oxford Dictionary of National Biography
The ODNB is the definitive reference source for British biography. It contains highly authoritative biographical profiles of nearly 60,000 people who shaped British history and culture for more than 2,000 years. Biographies are accompanied by useful bibliographic essays that identify archives holding the profiled figure’s correspondence as well as other, book-length scholarly biographies and secondary works. “See also” references allow for easy navigation between related entries in the dictionary. Advanced search capabilities allow researchers, for example, to pull up in a single list only nineteenth century British women novelists.
